The Red Hook Fest features a global lineup of extraordinarily talented bands and dance companies, plus free activities for all ages like kayak rides in New York Harbor, face-painting, and an interactive scavenger hunt. This year’s festival has a stellar line-up of artists, including reggae band Meta and The Cornerstones, Afro-modern hip-hop choreographer Francine E. Ott/The Walk, Japanese women drum ensemble Cobu, Afro-Cuban jazz and tap dance master Max Pollak/RumbaTap, and flex dance pioneer Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray and D.R.E.A.M. Ring dancers. The Festival brings out more than 4,000 people throughout the weekend, both local residents and travelers from near and far. The largest single event each year in Red Hook, the festival highlights a one-of-a-kind Brooklyn neighborhood filled with art galleries, great food, and beautiful urban landscapes.

Red Hook Resilience Corps is HIRING Part-Time Members!

Red Hook Community Resilience Corps! What is the Red Hook Community Resilience Corps? The Red Hook Community Resilience Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program that seeks to make Red Hook a safer, stronger and more resilient community. Corps members will serve throughout the Justice Center (in Peacemaking, Neighborhood Restitution Crew, Alternatives to Incarceration and Youth and Community Programs). Corps Members will also provide disaster recovery education, work with a mentor to achieve their goals and perform service projects throughout neighborhood. What is the Commitment? Corps Members must complete 900 hours of service in one year. Corps members will work part-time (25-28 hours/week) from April 4th-December 31st, 2016. A typical work day will be 9:30-5:30 with occasional evening and weekend obligations. What Benefits do Corps Members Receive? Corps members will receive a stipend of $3,759 for their service and an educational award of $2,865 which may be used toward tuition or student loans. Additional benefits include: basic medical coverage, childcare reimbursements, student loan forbearance, training and on the job work experience. Notification issued 1/22/16 at 11:52 AM. The National Weather Service has issued the following Coastal Flood products for NYC areas:

Southern Queens, Brooklyn, & Staten Island: Coastal Flood Warning in effect from 6AM – 12PM on 1/23 and again from 5PM until midnight 1/23 for coastal locations adjacent to the south shore of New York City along New York Harbor. Tidal departures are forecast to be three to four feet above normal. Beach erosion and localized flooding may occur.

Bronx, Northern Queens: Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 10AM – 2PM on 1/23. Tidal departures are forecast to be one and a half to two feet Saturday morning and two and a half to three and a half feet Saturday night.Beach erosion and localized flooding may occur.

Manhattan: Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 6Am – 10AM on 1/23. Tidal departures are forecast to be two to three feet Saturday morning and three to four feet Saturday evening.Localized flooding may occur.

A Coastal Flood Warning indicates that flooding is expected or occurring. Beach erosion and localized flooding may occur. During a Coastal Flood Advisory onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
