Visitor Services Attendants work to welcome and host the public at Pioneer Works during our exhibition’s open hours. The Visitor Services team works on a variety of tasks to serve the public including greeting and checking in the public, soliciting donations, and informing visitors of current offerings and assisting in way-finding. The team also collaborates with our Facilities team to open and close the building. While Pioneer Works is not creating in-person events at this time, the team will eventually assist in welcoming visitors to select programs once it is deemed safe to do so. The Visitor Services Attendant is a 24 hrs per week position, with a starting wage of $20/hr. Responsibilities ● Greet, welcome, and check in all visitors for open hours at Pioneer Works, including exhibitions, workshops, and events. ● Engage visitors with knowledge of Pioneer Works exhibitions, programs, residencies and upcoming events ● Usher visitors through our three galleries, manage capacity of each gallery and provide information on each exhibition ● Track gallery attendance, donations, sales & retail stock of lobby bookstore ● Work with Development team to sell on-site memberships ● Check in a high volume of ticketed and vip guests at Pioneer Works events ● Work with Finance team on daily cash reconciliation and reporting ● Work with Facilities team to ensure enforcement around COVID-19 protocols. Public Safety Program Info Session

RHI Works will employ 10 young adults to further the work of the public safety Committee, design youth-centered public safety programs, create an inventory of resources for returning citizens, and open opportunities to lift young adult voices in formal community/ civic spaces, all with a lens of reducing police violence. This will be a two-year project slated to begin in December 2020. Organizers will work 15 hours per week. An additional 20 will be hired for the 2022 year. The group will begin meeting in April 2021.

POSITION OVERVIEW Pioneer Works seeks a Part-Time Custodian to join our Facilities Team. The chief responsibility is to work with our Facilities Maintenance Manager to keep our 3-story, 25,000 square foot building and garden functioning in a clean, orderly manner on a daily basis. This work includes cleaning the space, minor repairs, and general maintenance. The position is part time and may require early morning and late evening hours (including weekends). Currently, our building remains open to our artists-in-residence, but is closed to the public. We plan to re-open in the spring, following all COVID-19 safety guidelines as provided by the city and state. The Part Time Custodian is a 30/hrs per week position, with a starting wage of $19/hr. Responsibilities ● Ensure the repair and maintenance needs of the organization are covered; ● Work with Facilities team to perform manual tasks, including but not limited to: ○ Cleaning and servicing indoor spaces, including but not limited to dusting, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping; ○ Cleaning and servicing outdoor spaces, including but not limited to snow removal, event preparation, general maintenance; ○ Basic repairs ● Work with Facilities team to ensure enforcement around COVID-19 cleaning protocols. The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive. The custodian will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the position. Visitor Services Attendants work to welcome and host the public at Pioneer Works during our exhibition’s open hours. The Visitor Services team works on a variety of tasks to serve the public including greeting and checking in the public, soliciting donations, and informing visitors of current offerings and assisting in way-finding. The team also collaborates with our Facilities team to open and close the building. While Pioneer Works is not creating in-person events at this time, the team will eventually assist in welcoming visitors to select programs once it is deemed safe to do so. The Visitor Services Attendant is a 24 hrs per week position, with a starting wage of $20/hr. Responsibilities ● Greet, welcome, and check in all visitors for open hours at Pioneer Works, including exhibitions, workshops, and events. ● Engage visitors with knowledge of Pioneer Works exhibitions, programs, residencies and upcoming events ● Usher visitors through our three galleries, manage capacity of each gallery and provide information on each exhibition ● Track gallery attendance, donations, sales & retail stock of lobby bookstore ● Work with Development team to sell on-site memberships ● Check in a high volume of ticketed and vip guests at Pioneer Works events ● Work with Finance team on daily cash reconciliation and reporting ● Work with Facilities team to ensure enforcement around COVID-19 protocols. Requirements ● Prior experience working in customer-facing roles ● Prior experience in museums, event production or membership a plus Pioneer Works Art Foundation, 159 Pioneer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231 ● Comfortable working independently and in a public facing customer service role ● Ability to work nights or weekends ● Ability to lift 25 lbs. ● Interest in the arts and sciences Pioneer Works is committed to creating a safe onsite environment for our staff as well as visitors. Public Safety Program Info Session

RHI Works will employ 10 young adults to further the work of the public safety Committee, design youth-centered public safety programs, create an inventory of resources for returning citizens, and open opportunities to lift young adult voices in formal community/ civic spaces, all with a lens of reducing police violence. This will be a two-year project slated to begin in December 2020. Organizers will work 15 hours per week. An additional 20 will be hired for the 2022 year. The group will begin meeting in April 2021.

 

Who is this for?

Any young person between the ages of 18 and 24 who currently lives, or has previously lived in the Red Hook area.

NYCHA Recovery & Resilience Red Hook Houses Update

NYCHA's Recovery and Resilience Department (R&R) is pushing design boundaries in building reinforcements, storm surge protection, and infrastructure upgrades. Below, please find the latest R&R construction update for Red Hook Houses. Power Plant & Pods Phase Percentage Completion: 16% Project Start: Q4 2019 Anticipated Completion: Q4 2022 Ongoing Activities: • Testing of foundation piles for the new East Plant (formerly 590 Clinton Street) o The piles will form the foundation of the new East Plant o Tests are performed on site to confirm the piles are capable of holding the load of the structure as designed o The East Plant will hold standby generators and boiler equipment above the flood level to provide full backup power and heat to NYCHA Red Hook buildings • Wet and dry floodproofing of building basements to limit damage during a flood event • Excavation for and instillation of new underground electrical, heating, and plumbing lines between buildings across the site o The new electrical, heating, and plumbing lines will be installed throughout the site and will connect to the new utility buildings to service all of NYCHA Red Hook (see fourth photo above) o This work requires the installation of temporary ADA-accessible building entryways o These plans have been shared with property management, resident association presidents, and the FDNY • Construction of utility pod (small building) foundations throughout the site o The utility pods will house critical electrical and mechanical equipment above the flood elevation to better protect building services during an extreme weather event Upcoming Activities: • Pouring cement for the utility pod foundation pile caps next to buildings 13 (31 Centre Mall) and 3W (100 Dwight) Other: • Domestic gas service has been restored to buildings 11 and 13
