National Disaster Resilience Competition Public Hearing and Comment Period

When: Mar 10, 2015 7:00-8:30 pm

Where: Pace University, 163 William Street, 18th Floor, Manhattan

New York City is participating in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC). NDRC will award nearly $1 billion in HUD disaster recovery funds to eligible communities nationwide. In this Phase 1 application, the City describes its unmet resiliency needs stemming from Hurricane Sandy. Specific project requests are not included in Phase 1. They will be developed during Phase 2, which is due in October. The public may review the draft application and submit comments by visiting http://www.nyc.gov/html/cdbg. The public comment period ends on March 16th.

Family Court 101: For Survivors of Crime

The Red Hook Community Justice Center is happy to announce the launch of our monthly Learning Series. Each month, we will be presenting information on different topics relevant to survivors of family violence, intimate partner violence, and other forms of inter-person crime. Join us on March 10th for our first workshop: Family Court 101: For Survivors of Crime. Topics will Include: *Understanding the Family Court Process and Orders of Protection *Trauma and Family Court—how to take care of yourself A light refreshment will be served. Participatory Budgeting Project Expo Workshop

Where: Red Hook Initiative - 767 Hicks Street

Arts & Democracy is offering a PB local workshop on creating Project Expo Exhibits on Wednesday March 11th at the Red Hook Initiative. This is where budget delegates and any volunteers will bring project proposals to life. We are attempting to step it up a notch with our project expos by using 3D printers. Arts and Democracy will provide all the materials and light refreshments.

The Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR) announces available funding to establish a NY Rising Community Center in Red Hook.The overall purpose of the NY Rising Community Centers Program is to create a network of resilient facilities within the aforementioned Communities where organizations can provide critical recovery and social services in the disaster-affected areas. GOSR has issued two (2) Notices of Funding Availability (NOFA) in the implementation of the NY Rising Community Centers Program.The notices, which are running concurrently, are for the purposes of 1) seeking Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from owners/operators of existing buildings to be retrofit and designated as NY Rising Community Centers, and 2) seeking SOQs from nonprofit organizations to provide public services within the selected buildings.
