The Red Hook Fest features a global lineup of extraordinarily talented bands and dance companies, plus free activities for all ages like kayak rides in New York Harbor, face-painting, and an interactive scavenger hunt. This year’s festival has a stellar line-up of artists, including reggae band Meta and The Cornerstones, Afro-modern hip-hop choreographer Francine E. Ott/The Walk, Japanese women drum ensemble Cobu, Afro-Cuban jazz and tap dance master Max Pollak/RumbaTap, and flex dance pioneer Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray and D.R.E.A.M. Ring dancers. The Festival brings out more than 4,000 people throughout the weekend, both local residents and travelers from near and far. The largest single event each year in Red Hook, the festival highlights a one-of-a-kind Brooklyn neighborhood filled with art galleries, great food, and beautiful urban landscapes.

Red Hook Resilience Corps is HIRING Part-Time Members!

Red Hook Community Resilience Corps! What is the Red Hook Community Resilience Corps? The Red Hook Community Resilience Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program that seeks to make Red Hook a safer, stronger and more resilient community. Corps members will serve throughout the Justice Center (in Peacemaking, Neighborhood Restitution Crew, Alternatives to Incarceration and Youth and Community Programs). Corps Members will also provide disaster recovery education, work with a mentor to achieve their goals and perform service projects throughout neighborhood. What is the Commitment? Corps Members must complete 900 hours of service in one year. Corps members will work part-time (25-28 hours/week) from April 4th-December 31st, 2016. A typical work day will be 9:30-5:30 with occasional evening and weekend obligations. What Benefits do Corps Members Receive? Corps members will receive a stipend of $3,759 for their service and an educational award of $2,865 which may be used toward tuition or student loans. Additional benefits include: basic medical coverage, childcare reimbursements, student loan forbearance, training and on the job work experience. Brooklyn Raga Massive

Brooklyn Raga Massive is a collective of forward thinking musicians rooted in or inspired by the classical music of India. For almost 4 years, the Brooklyn Raga Massive has held a weekly concert series and jam session, featuring classical Indian performances and experiments with contemporary music and world music traditions. The inclusive and spontaneous sessions have created a strong community of world class musicians and dedicated fans, and has been an incubator of new genres of music indigenous to Brooklyn.

BRM’s Pioneer Works residency will consist of multi-disciplinary performances, recording sessions, educational offerings and podcasts. For every Wednesday in February, March and April, BRM will bring their weekly series to Pioneer Works with greatly expanded programming. The recording studio at Pioneer Works will be utilised by BRM each week as their members engage in a collaborative composition project. These studio recordings, in addition to live concert recordings from the whole residency, will be used to create a new BRM compilation album defined by its collaboration with Pioneer Works. Video from the concerts, studio and interviews will comprise a documentary film and video shorts, further defining this bold partnership.
