The Red Hook Fest features a global lineup of extraordinarily talented bands and dance companies, plus free activities for all ages like kayak rides in New York Harbor, face-painting, and an interactive scavenger hunt. This year’s festival has a stellar line-up of artists, including reggae band Meta and The Cornerstones, Afro-modern hip-hop choreographer Francine E. Ott/The Walk, Japanese women drum ensemble Cobu, Afro-Cuban jazz and tap dance master Max Pollak/RumbaTap, and flex dance pioneer Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray and D.R.E.A.M. Ring dancers. The Festival brings out more than 4,000 people throughout the weekend, both local residents and travelers from near and far. The largest single event each year in Red Hook, the festival highlights a one-of-a-kind Brooklyn neighborhood filled with art galleries, great food, and beautiful urban landscapes.

Red Hook Resilience Corps is HIRING Part-Time Members!

When: February 1-26, 2016

Red Hook Community Resilience Corps! What is the Red Hook Community Resilience Corps? The Red Hook Community Resilience Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program that seeks to make Red Hook a safer, stronger and more resilient community. Corps members will serve throughout the Justice Center (in Peacemaking, Neighborhood Restitution Crew, Alternatives to Incarceration and Youth and Community Programs). Corps Members will also provide disaster recovery education, work with a mentor to achieve their goals and perform service projects throughout neighborhood. What is the Commitment? Corps Members must complete 900 hours of service in one year. Corps members will work part-time (25-28 hours/week) from April 4th-December 31st, 2016. A typical work day will be 9:30-5:30 with occasional evening and weekend obligations. What Benefits do Corps Members Receive? Corps members will receive a stipend of $3,759 for their service and an educational award of $2,865 which may be used toward tuition or student loans. Additional benefits include: basic medical coverage, childcare reimbursements, student loan forbearance, training and on the job work experience. Brooklyn Raga Massive Residency Launch Party

Brooklyn Raga Massive will launch its Pioneer Works residency with a special concert celebration, a retrospective of it’s popular and joyful Africa/India Series. For over a year now, Brooklyn Raga Massive, NYC Radio LIve and Afro Roots Music Nights teamed up to bring African and Indian artists together for a popular series of monthly concerts. These shows have included great musicians including collaborations with Mali’s Yacouba Cissoko, the Moroccan group Innove Gnawa and the OM Gam Ensemble. The majority of these have been archived on the podcast www.nycradiolive.org and broadcast on WKCR 89.9 FM-NY.

For Feb 3rd’s special triple bill, we will be presenting the legendary “golden voice of Mali,” Awa Sangho, supported by the Brooklyn Raga Massive All-Stars, the fresh new electro-acoustic Kora/Tabla duo Orakel made up of Kane Mathis and Roshni Samlal and the original band in this new genre Afrika Meets India, led by Kevin Nathaniel on Mbira and Eric Fraser on Bansuri. Additional musicians involved in the evening include, Giancarlo Luigi, percussion, David Ellenbogen, guitar, Sameer Gupta, tabla, Daniel Moreno, Percussion, Joshua Geisler, Bansuri; Salieu Suso, Kora, Michael Gam, Bass, Neel Murgai, Sitar, Arun Ramamurthy, Violin and other special guests.

This concert is part of Brooklyn Raga Massive’s performance and recording residency at Pioneer Works. Please join us for upcoming concerts in this series through April 2016:
