NYCHA is halting residential evictions for as long as the City is under a state of emergency.  

When: Monday, March 16, 2020

 

NYCHA encourages households experiencing a loss of income to access our rent hardship program. You may qualify for a rent reduction if all the following conditions are met: There is at least a 5% reduction to gross income; Current rent is more than 30% of the net household income; and Reduction in income has lasted at least two months. Residents can request a rent reduction by completing an Interim Recertification via the NYCHA Self-Service Portal or by calling their Property Management Office to request a paper form be mailed to your home. If your household experiences a complete loss of income, you may qualify for NYCHA’s Zero Income Policy; please call your property management office to participate in the required eligibility interview.  https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nycha/index.page

HPD Section 8 Information and Resources

HPD Section 8 has a notice on its website for HPD Section 8 tenants. The notice can be found here: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/hpd/services-and-information/section-8.page

The notice lays out HPD’s policy which includes:

100 Gold Street is closed to clients HPD will suspend any subsidy termination actions until further notice All tenant conferences and briefing that were scheduled will be postponed and rescheduled. If clients are experiencing a rent hardship due to a decrease in income, they should email HPD at [email protected] or fax at 212-863-5299. All Hearings are cancelled and HPD will continue to pay the subsidy until a final determination is made. If your client has a recertification that is due and they can complete the recertification without putting their health at risk or risking exposure to coronavirus, they should mail, email or fax the recertification.  HPD is trying to hold clients harmless during this crisis.  They are also talking to HUD to get extensions and waivers to help protect tenants.
