This year’s festival has a stellar line-up of artists, including reggae band Meta and The Cornerstones, Afro-modern hip-hop choreographer Francine E. Ott/The Walk, Japanese women drum ensemble Cobu, Afro-Cuban jazz and tap dance master Max Pollak/RumbaTap, and flex dance pioneer Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray and D.R.E.A.M. Ring dancers. The Festival brings out more than 4,000 people throughout the weekend, both local residents and travelers from near and far. The largest single event each year in Red Hook, the festival highlights a one-of-a-kind Brooklyn neighborhood filled with art galleries, great food, and beautiful urban landscapes.

Red Hook Resilience Corps is HIRING Part-Time Members!

Red Hook Community Resilience Corps! What is the Red Hook Community Resilience Corps? The Red Hook Community Resilience Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program that seeks to make Red Hook a safer, stronger and more resilient community. Corps members will serve throughout the Justice Center (in Peacemaking, Neighborhood Restitution Crew, Alternatives to Incarceration and Youth and Community Programs). Corps Members will also provide disaster recovery education, work with a mentor to achieve their goals and perform service projects throughout neighborhood. What is the Commitment? Corps Members must complete 900 hours of service in one year. Corps members will work part-time (25-28 hours/week) from April 4th-December 31st, 2016. A typical work day will be 9:30-5:30 with occasional evening and weekend obligations. What Benefits do Corps Members Receive? Corps members will receive a stipend of $3,759 for their service and an educational award of $2,865 which may be used toward tuition or student loans. Additional benefits include: basic medical coverage, childcare reimbursements, student loan forbearance, training and on the job work experience. As Storm Cleanup Continues; Mayor Deblasio and NYC Sanitation Seek Additional Snow Laborers To Clear Snow and Ice

 

 

Registration Available at Sanitation Depots Around City
As cleanup from this weekend’s winter storm continues, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia put out a call today for additional emergency snow laborers to remove snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants, step streets, and other locations throughout the city.

Interested individuals can register at local Sanitation garages today and every day this week from 7am until 3pm. The list of garage locations can be found below and online here. Snow laborers will be paid $13.50 per hour, and $20.25 per hour after 40 hours are worked in a week, an increase from the previous year.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, be eligible to work in the United States, and capable of performing heavy physical labor.

All applicants must bring:

  • Two small photos (1 ½ square)
  • Original and copy of two forms of identification
  • Social Security card or Tax ID Number
