Red Hook Peacemaking Program

Greetings, I am writing to share with you an opportunity to be trained as a volunteer peacemaker as part of the Red Hook Community Justice Center's Peacemaking Program! The Peacemaking Program will be providing free training for new volunteer peacemakers this March through May and encourage all who are interested to participate. Peacemaking is a traditional Native American form of justice that promotes healing and restoration. Although peacemaking varies across tribes, it generally brings together defendants and victims, as well as others affected by the defendant’s behavior. Peacemakers, who are trained volunteers from the community, lead the peacemaking sessions and allow each participant to speak about how the case has affected him or her personally. EPA Testing for Lead near Red Hook Ball Fields

Testing for lead at the Red Hook ball fields (see attached fact sheet): On Monday, March 16, EPA began testing soil in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in the area of the former Columbia Smelting & Refining Works – Results of soil testing in October showed elevated levels of lead – The additional testing next week will help to better define the areas that will be cleaned up. Fact sheet are being distributed by EPA and New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to local residents and users of Red Hook Park and available in Spanish.
