Help Red Hook Library Win $20,000

What does your neighborhood library mean to you? Nominate your Brooklyn Public Library branch and it could win $20,000! The Charles H. Revson Foundation’s 2nd Annual NYC Neighborhood Library Awards wants you to share why your branch deserves to be recognized for the outstanding service it provides to your community. In 2013, Macon and Sheepshead Bay libraries were two of five citywide winners, each nabbing $10,000 in prize money. Finalist Kings Bay Library was also awarded $5,000 for its dedication to Brooklyn. Stronger Together (NYCHA Program)

Where: Red Hook Initiative 767 Hicks St.

In partnership with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, Red Hook Initiative and Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation, the Stronger Together program provides free Job Training and Placement, Adult Education, and Individual and Family support services, such as legal advice, financial coaching, benefits counseling and tax preparation.

 Stronger Together seeks to work specifically with NYCHA residents living in the Gowanus and Red Hook neighborhoods but anyone, including your friends and family, can access the full scope of services offered by this initiative.

Volunteers needed November 22nd & 23rd. Saving Red Hook historic maritime artifacts. Moving things from pier onto and into our historic ship. Work for all ages, skill levels and physical strength. Stronger Together Partners Event

On December 5 at 2 pm - 7 pm the Stronger Together Partners comes together to throw an event for the Red Hook community to offer them a few services they provide and workshops!   Organizations w/ workshops and services they offer: Adult Education with Fifth Avenue Committee: Offers services such as HSE classes (formerly called GED) ESL and college access. Job Training Programs with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations: Offers people who are interested in working in a career in wood related trade to either obtain some experience or to better advance your current skills. Neighborhood Employment Services (NES) will be hosting a “Resume Preparation Workshop” from 2:30-6pm. NES will like for participants to RSVP in advance to Yannerys Castillo 718-237-2017 ext. 164. Community Services will do on-site intakes, screening for benefits & scheduling appointments for services. In addition, Judy Polyne, our new financial coach will be hosting 2 Financial Literacy Workshop: Get Money Smart; 3-4 pm & 4:30-5:30 pm Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corp will be hosting 4 “Jobseeker Fundamentals” workshops (40 mins each). Red Hook Initiative will be recruiting for the Young Adult Program 2015 cycle of Professional Development onsite. We'll also be having Free HIV Testing for anyone interested that are 18 and up are welcome to get tested. People who get tested will receive a Metrocard. (while supplies last). Youth Basketball Clinic

An exciting and new basketball program for young people has come to the neighborhood. All young people, 11-18 years old from Red Hook and South Brooklyn are welcome to join. The program will occur every Friday evening. Training and instruction will be provided by professional basketball trainers from Pro Hoops. Please share with any interested young people.
