Hello Leaders and Community Advocates, Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez's office is putting together a Resident Community Advisory Group for Red Hook. This will be a group of 15 to 25 individuals who will represent Red Hook and Red Hook Houses. Two seats will be appointed by the Resident Council Presidents. NYCHA Recovery & Resilience: Red Hook Houses Update

To sign up for email updates of the ongoing resilience work at Red Hook Houses please email disaster.recovery@nycha.nyc.gov Power Plant & Pods Phase Percentage Completion: 8% Project Start: Q4 2019 Anticipated Completion: Q4 2022 Ongoing Activities: • Continued installation of new underground utility lines by buildings 1W, 2W, and 3W, 5E o New utility lines will be installed throughout the site and will connect to the new utility pods to provide all Red Hook buildings with heat, hot water, and backup electricity • Installation of underground retention tanks by building 4E o The underground retention tanks will capture excess stormwater runoff to help prevent flooding during periods of heavy rainfall o The retention tanks by buildings 2W and 3W were successfully installed and backfilled Upcoming Activities: • Excavation for and instillation of new underground electrical, heating, and plumbing lines between buildings o This work will involve reconfiguring the building exits, however, access to all buildings will remain open and ADA-accessible at all times o Buildings 1E, 2E, 3E, 4E, and 15 through 18 will be the first buildings affected by this work o Residents will be notified in advance via flyers and phone calls once a start date is established o These plans have been shared with property management, resident association presidents, and the FDNY • Drilling of foundation piles for the new utility pods (small buildings) by building 2E, 4E, and 1W (West Pod) o The piles will form the foundation of the new utility pods o The utility pods will house critical electrical and mechanical equipment above the flood elevation to better protect building services during a flood event. • Full demolition of building 28 (590 Clinton Street) o The Red Hook East Plant will be constructed in its place to house standby generators and boiler equipment above the flood elevation

To sign up for email updates of the ongoing resilience work at Red Hook Houses please email disaster.recovery@nycha.nyc.gov Power Plant & Pods Phase Percentage Completion: 7% Project Start: Q4 2019 Anticipated Completion: Q4 2022 Ongoing Activities: • Installation of underground retention tanks by building 1W The underground retention tanks will capture excess stormwater runoff to help prevent flooding during periods of heavy rainfall The retention tanks by buildings 2W and 3W were successfully installed and backfilled • Continued installation of new underground conduit by buildings 1W, 2W, and 3W New conduit will be installed throughout the site and will connect to the new utility pods to service all Red Hook buildings • Testing of foundation piles by building 28 (future East Plant) The piles will form the foundation of the new East Plant which will hold standby generators and boiler equipment above the flood elevation Tests are performed on site to confirm the piles are capable of holding the load of a structure as designed Upcoming Activities: • Service interruptions: Hot water interruption at Red Hook East buildings 1 through 5, Senior Center, and Miccio Center on August 19 from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. The purpose of this interruption is to replace existing pipe insulation in the building basements. This work will allow for additional upgrades to Red Hook building basements including floodproofing measures to better protect the buildings during a storm.
