Red Hook CARES presents “Stepping Out Against Domestic Violence”– Join us for a peace walk around the community in an effort to spread awareness about Domestic Violence, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Meet up at the Red Hook Community Justice Center on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 3:30pm.  You can make your own signs to carry during the walk or join us at 2:30pm in the Mock Court Room to make signs together.  Be sure to wear purple!

SBS Risk Assessment & Grant Program for Businesses Affected by Superstorm Sandy

Was your small business impacted by Superstorm Sandy? If so, you may be eligible for an on-site, one-on-one risk assessment through the NYC Department of Small Business Services. Their team of experts will come to your place of business to: 1. Review your physical space, operations, and insurance coverage 2. Make recommendations and provide you with a customized report on how you can be better prepared for future business interruptions Following the assessment, you can receive a grant of up to $3,000 to buy items and equipment recommended for your business, such as a wireless Point-of-Sale system, fireproof storage containers, and portable generators. AmeriCorps Opportunity for Students

We are currently recruiting AmeriCorps members to join the Red Hook Community Resilience Corps as our minimum time members. Youth between the ages of 17-24 who may be pursuing a HSE/ HS diploma are eligible to apply. We have a summer program and school year that youth can choose from. Click here for more info.  School Year- You will be responsible for 300 hours; most hours will be completed from attending classes. On Fridays, you would come to the Justice Center for workshops and mentoring sessions. They will work one on one with another AmeriCorps member. Members will receive an educational award of $1,221. The program will run between May and October. Summer Program- You will be responsible for 300 hours, some of these hours will come from attending class.  The majority of the hours will be from their participation in our Summer Internship program in which they will be trained and place at a site, enhancing their job skills. Members will receive a stipend of $800-$900 in addition to the education award of $1,221. The program will run between June and September.
