Red Hook Public Art Project on Climate Change

The Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency (ORR), the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and Council Member Carlos Menchaca are leading a participatory process to commission a public art project on climate change and sea level rise in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and we need your help! Anyone with an interest in Red Hook can join in the decision making process. Call to Artists We are pleased to announce our Call to Artists for the Red Hook Public Art Project on Climate Change. The deadline for submissions is Earth Day, April 22nd. Artists are asked to submit examples of past work, a brief statement on their approach to this project, and references. NYCHA Gang Raids

His essays appear regularly in AM New York, Huffington Post, City Limits, and the Daily News - Taylonn Murphy Sr. is the father of slain 18 year old promising basketball star Tayshana "Chicken" Murphy who was murdered in Grant Houses due to a feud with a rival housing project. He has since become an activist and leads up the 696 Cure Violence site in Queensbridge - Paula Clarke is the mother of a young man arrested as part of the Bronx 120 raid. She has become a vocal advocate on behalf of families affected by these raids

Notify NYC – Winter Storm

Due to heavy snow that will create slick and hazardous travel conditions, New York City Emergency Management has issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory for tomorrow, 2/9. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for New York City due to heavy snowfall. The warning is in effect from midnight until 6:00 PM on 2/9. The current forecast calls for 6-12" of snow, wind speeds of 10-20 mph with gusts of 35-40 mph, and visibility of one quarter mile or less. The City of New York Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Department of Sanitation, announced that Alternate Side Parking regulations will be suspended citywide for tomorrow, 2/9. Payment at parking meters will remain in effect throughout the city. Red Hook Climate Change Public Art Kickoff Meeting

A weekly food share is provided for pick up every Saturday, payment is made ahead of the season to support the farmers and youths of Added Value. The 2015 season runs from June 20-November 21. As part of the Mayor’s Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP), the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) has launched an Outreach Team to provide in-person information and assistance to Red Hook East and West residents regarding HRA programs and services. Stephanie Mena, an Outreach Specialist with the MAP HRA NYCHA Outreach Team, will be located at the Red Hook East/ Joseph Miccio Community Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am-2:00pm. She can provide NYCHA residents with information about HRA benefits, services, and other resources. She can also assist with SNAP and public health insurance application completion, basic information related to open cases, and linkages to other HRA services.
