HOOK ARTS MEDIA SEEKS ASSOCIATE PRODUCER FOR THE 30th ANNUAL RED HOOK FEST Hook Arts Media (HAM) is seeking an Associate Producer for the 30th Annual Red Hook Fest, a three day arts festival during early May and the first week of June, 2023 featuring top talent in music and dance in the community of Red Hook, Brooklyn. Responsibilities: Handle all aspects of festival production with special attention if necessary to COVID-19 safety guidelines Manage Festival budget Meet weekly with Executive Producer Work with Technical Director to assure smooth running of event Handle all permitting as necessary, community relations, police permits and FDNY Lead monthly production meetings March-June Handle all equipment rentals in collaboration with Technical Director Collaborate with HAM Marketing Manager and local outreach staff on event marketing Supervise staff handling youth groups and community partners Creating and maintaining Productions Schedules and Show Flows Qualifications: Self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong work ethic and ability to commit to the event’s mission and values. Hook Arts Media seeks an Office Manager/Administrative Assistant Founded in 1994, Hook Arts Media is a vibrant community-based, multi-disciplinary arts organization located on the beautiful Red Hook, Brooklyn waterfront. HAM currently runs year-round arts education programs at high needs public high schools as well onsite and offsite after-school and community programs for ages 12-24, serving upwards of 700 students annually. In addition, HAM produces the annual Red Hook Fest each June – a free outdoor performing arts festival that features world class artists as well performances by over 100 local youth – and pop-up performances in support of community initiatives. HAM is seeking an Office Manager/Administrative Assistant to join our team. The position is part time and based in HAM’s Red Hook offices. This is a 21-hour-a-week position with some options for remote work. The Office Manager/Administrative Assistant will work closely with the Executive Director, Hook Arts core staff, and will play a large role in maintaining office operations and providing support to the Executive Director. As a lead member of the staff, the Office Manager/Administrative Assistant will ensure the office operations all run smoothly. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. Primary responsibilities include: Administrative Track, scan, file and send all bills, invoices, receipts for credit card purchases, and Petty Cash to Finance Consultants Track credit card receipts for reconciliations Assist with preparation of annual audit as needed Office Management Track/order office and maintenance supplies and equipment Assist with Covid-19 safety protocols in office Purchase supplies and equipment for all programs Track all tech/program equipment/computer purchases and track against appropriate grants Work with IT consultants for any issues that arise Supervise and assist with office cleaning and organization as needed. Answer phone and all voicemail Work with Marketing to track all individual donations Assist with database updates Prepare and track Thank You letters for individual donations. Events Assist with planning and production of public events, including the Red Hook Fest and Education Program events Assist with planning and production of fundraising and cultivation events, including annual holiday party and/or gala Other Attend weekly staff meetings and provide status updates Handle communications and scheduling of meetings with Board of Directors Additional phone calling and emails to attend to daily management of organization. Candidate must be highly organized, have strong writing & communication skills, and have excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong preference for candidates with at least 5 years’ experience in operations management within the NYC cultural sector. Knowledge of film and media equipment a plus. Pay is commensurate with experience: $25-$30 per hour. 21 hours per week plus up to 32 additional hours to be used to attend and assist with Hook Arts events, approximately 6 events annually. Hook Arts Media Seeks Community Engagement Coordinator Hook Arts Media (HAM) is a dynamic community-based cultural organization located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. HAM seeks a part-time Community Engagement Coordinator to foster and nourish community relationships, spread awareness of HAM mission and programming, support event planning, and attend Red Hook events. Responsibilities The Community Engagement Coordinator is a part-time position from February – December 2023 and will be an essential member of the Red Hook Fest planning, promotion, and production process. The 30th Annual Red Hook Fest will take place during the first weekend of June 2023 with events throughout the weekend in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In addition to live performances, the festival will feature a community resource fair, free activities, and a community cookout and DJ dance party. The Community Engagement Coordinator will take support pre-festival planning by attending monthly production meetings with festival staff, coordinating the community resource fair, supervising a grassroots promotion team, attending important civic meetings to discuss the festival, and supporting event promotion efforts. Additionally, the Coordinator will recruit, train, and supervise Festival volunteers. Following the festival, the Community Engagement Coordinator will participate in meetings, coordinate events, spread awareness of HAM’s programming and mission, recruit local students for community-based programs, and attend events, as needed. Qualifications The ideal candidate has 3+ years of professional, volunteer, or advocacy experience in community organizing, written and verbal communication, and event production. Facilitation, management, nonprofit or political, and administrative experience are highly desirable. Required skills include some computer/digital literacy: Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and social media. The Community Engagement Coordinator must be able to work effectively as a member of a team and independently. Multilingual candidates and those with a deep familiarity with Red Hook, Brooklyn are encouraged to apply. The New York City Housing Authority is building back safer, stronger and smarter by improving structural resiliency and infrastructure protection at Red Hook Houses. NYCHA’s Recovery and Resilience Department (R&R) is pushing design boundaries in building reinforcements, storm surge protection, and infrastructure upgrades. Below, please find the latest R&R construction update for Red Hook Houses. To learn more about the R&R program visit https://www1.nyc.gov/site/nycha/about/recovery-resiliency.page Power Plant & Pods Phase Percentage Completion: 53% Project Start: Q4 2019 Anticipated Completion: Q1 2024 Ongoing Activities: • New plantings by building 6 (62 Mill) as part of the site restoration pilot work • Painting and installation of waterlines at the West Pod by building 1W (135 Richards) • Construction of lily pad passive flood protection measures by buildings 2W (147 Richards) and 3W (100 Dwight), 5 (748 Henry), 6 (791 Hicks), and 7 (772 Henry) o The flood protection measures will help keep water out of flood-prone areas during a storm • Installation of sprinkler system, medium temperature hot water piping, and elevators in the East Plant o The new East Plant will hold standby generators and boiler equipment above the flood level to provide full backup power and heat to NYCHA Red Hook buildings • Continued construction of all utility pods (small buildings) including but not limited to installation of framing, brick facades, electrical equipment, and roofing • Installation of site lighting posts and conduit throughout the site o The new site lighting will be brighter and more energy efficient • Basement floodproofing work throughout the site to protect flood-prone areas o All basements except for building 6 (62 Mill Street) are expected to be completed by the end of 2023 • Temporary street parking closures at Columbia between Bush and Mill Street to facilitate the installation of underground conduit that will help better protect Red Hook buildings from unplanned utility outages • Relocation of maintenance and management spaces to facilitate floodproofing work in building basements Upcoming Activities: • Construction of lily pad passive flood protection measures by remaining buildings throughout the site • Construction of new trash area at the West Pod by building 1W (135 Richards) Other: • NYCHA’s Pest Management Department has been conducting regular visits to Red Hook to install and/or service bait stations, collapse rodent burrows, and close gaps in building basements to reduce the rodent population on site. o Additionally, the Sandy contractor has continued to install and/or service bait stations and collapse rat burrows every week, and clean the construction work zones daily.
