New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) and the Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency (ORR) are announcing an Open Call for mural designs to be applied to structures that are part of the Interim Flood Protection Measures (IFPM) program, which have been deployed along Beard and Reed Streets in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The Open Call is not limited to professional artists, anyone is invited to submit a design, which will be printed on vinyl banners and attached to the IFPM. At least 10 designs will be chosen, and winning proposals will receive $500.
This is an exciting opportunity for the Mayor’s Office, NYCEM, and the Red Hook community to artistically integrate the HESCO barriers into the fabric of the neighborhood. The HESCO barriers total approximately 700 feet in length, and these murals have the potential to have a large impact.
