Red Hook Community Survey for NYU

When: Monday, April 8, 2019

Where: ex: at the Verezano pier

Hello! As part of a semester long project, our class at NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service is compiling feedback from Red Hook residents about the current status and future goals of the neighborhood. This information will be utilized to create a meaningful, and thoughtful neighborhood plan. In order to reflect the wishes and desires of the Red Hook community, we are hoping members would be willing to answer a survey about the neighborhood. The survey can be found here (please put team '5' for the second question, Q39). We'd greatly appreciate your participation! While our project is a class exercise, the insight gained may prove useful to residents. We are happy to share the results of our survey with the community. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Town Hall Meeting on BQE Reconstruction

When: Apr 3, 2019 7:00-9:00 pm

Where: Plymouth Church 75 Hicks St, Brooklyn, New York 11201

Hosted by Brooklyn Heights Association and A Better Way. Join us for a BQE Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7 PM at Plymouth Church, 57 Orange Street. Your presence at this informative meeting is vitally important to sending an unambiguous message to Mayor de Blasio, Commissioner Trottenberg and our elected officials that we will not accept DOT’s current plans to rebuild the BQE. Both of the DOT’s current plans are unacceptable. The plan for a “temporary” 6-lane highway on the Promenade for a minimum of six years has galvanized local communities with its panoply of environmental and economic threats: traffic congestion, air pollution, noise from nighttime construction, destabilization of nearby buildings, detriment to neighborhood businesses, and the closing of the Promenade for years. We are also rejecting the DOT’s “Traditional” lane by lane plan because we reject any plan that will flood our local streets with traffic. We demand that DOT develop a better, less destructive and more forward-thinking temporary solution that will give consideration to people and not just traffic. DOT must anticipate the region’s future transportation needs rather than restoring a 1950s version of highway planning. This Town Hall meeting is jointly sponsored by the Brooklyn Heights Association and A Better Way. We will be joined by Comptroller Scott Stringer and Council Member Stephen Levin, two critics of the DOT’s plans, other elected officials, and Marc Wouters, the architect behind our alternative Bypass Highway concept. Please tell your neighbors and friends about the Town Hall meeting and be there on April 3rd to send a resounding “No” to DOT’s current proposals and join us in helping to develop a more innovative solution. Click on "interested" or "going" so you will be notified when we post updates... and to help us spread the word!
