Where: Sources Confirm Arrests & Ongoing Investigation Into NYCHA Kickback Scheme

NYCHA is BACK in the news.... From Kings County Politics.com: Arrests have already been made and there is an ongoing investigation into a massive kickback scheme involving New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) jobs to repair Superstorm Sandy damage, according to sources with knowledge of the investigation. KCP first reported the kickback scheme last Friday as happening in Coney Island, but has learned since it is a citywide investigation involving construction companies and nefarious characters known on the street as “the coalition,” getting low-income individuals on NYCHA job sites at prevailing wages for kickback “donations.” Sources say the city’s Department of Investigation (DOI) is involved in the investigation. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is also looking through several complaints regarding the investigation. Read full article here...

New Exhibitions Opening This Week at Pioneer Works

When: Jul 20, 2018 7:00-9:00 pm

Where: Pioneer Works 159 Pioneer St, Brooklyn, NY 11231

John Lucas and Claudia Rankine Stamped Opens this Friday: In Stamped, filmmaker and photographer John Lucas and writer Claudia Rankine have collaboratively captured photographs of dyed blonde hair, as seen on the heads of strangers and acquaintances. These images—zoomed in and cropped—are framed as still images and also transposed onto real postage stamps. The stamp, a form of currency with inherent mobility, becomes a metaphor for questioning: What do we attribute to blondness? Where do we think it will take us? These questions are implicated in recorded conversations between Rankine and the individuals that she encounters, which play throughout the gallery space. Meanwhile, a video installation by Lucas depicts cascading strands of hair.
